Wicca: Anyone get tired of the emphasis on magic, instead of the spiritual?

I mean, it's a beautiful religion through emphasis on acceptance and equality, and pays homage to nature and the world around us … but take a book on Wicca these days, and its all about setting up your altar and cast spells. Instead of giving me the rituals of holiday time in distant countries to incorporate in my own observation, I received instructions to look into a crystal ball. Am I the only one who wants more spirituality and less magic and divination?

It seems to be a common problem with many pagan religions and pagan. I strongly suspect that many books written about my faith are written by those who do not actually practice in all honesty. They seem to have knowledge about the tenuous nature of the Nordic gods and I think they are wannabe pagan Nordic Heathen clothing. While some people do not practice my faith * * seidr, the vast majority of we do not, if this is not the impression you get from reading some of the popular books on Asatru (the authors also apparently not aware that there are many forms of Nordic Paganism). Seidr is a Nordic shamanic tradition and should be reserved for those who have an affinity and talent for such things – no incentive for us all. (I do not practice seidr, btw. I raise a nest against those who attacked my adopted homeland nithings September 11 each year and place a Nidstang, but that's all.) I * do * feel bad for Wiccans as I read some of the books that claim represent your faith. It really gives people a false idea of the vast majority of you. I have a bad idea from reading some these books if I did not know many Wiccans and pagans in person. I found the vast majority of them being like me – a deep spiritual bond with their patron deities, focusing on little or no "magic" other than as a tool to focus their inner energies to cope with the task. It's very sad for me when someone corrupts the basic nature of any faith, really. It is even worse in my mind when hacks like Raven Silverwolf prey on portfolios and more teenagers confused confused with their drivel. We have such a Emphasis on historical fact and turn to the archaeological record in my faith, we have not quite the same problem with what you Wiccans have, but it still exists and most of us find it reprehensible and even completely mad. I think all we can really do, it is for those of us who were in faith for a long period (or in my case – who were raised in the faith) to show Example. If a young Nordic Heathen shows an affinity for shamanism and a talent for seidr or even just runework, I will still advise on issues practices and traditions, but for spiritual education, they go to one or Godia Godi – not a book that could easily mislead. I truly believe that those of us in these religions should be a little more vigilant in guiding our young members so that they are victims * not * to misdirection or are made to feel badly because they lack the natural talent required spellwork in any faith. After all, most people do not the talents – they are quite rare.
