The Tuning Fork Of Prayer
Enlightenment, nirvana, salvation, or whatever you want to call it, we all need to learn how to access our higher self. Richard Rohr writes, “Religion at the more mature levels invariably learned an alternative consciousness, which was necessary for wider seeing and for addressing the great dilemmas of life.” I once called that PRAYER.
Greater consciousness!!! Most Christians are simply afraid of any word not found in the Bible!
But let us venture for with a frontier spirit and explore the possibility that in prayer it should be our purpose to become the tuning fork of the Universal Consciousness- God! The omnipresent One is everywhere at all times SAYING, but how difficult it is for us to be STILL and HEAR! Maybe the more technical statement would be to FEEL the vibrations of our Father-Creator and begin to RESONATE at the same frequency.
I know, I know, it sounds too impersonal. But, it is true nonetheless.
For those that were fed within the Bible Belt, the thought of just “receiving” is hard to embrace. What are the WORKS that must be done, where’s the MERITOCRACY in just receiving and what about one’s state or WORTHINESS? As I said, within the Bible Belt, those are important issues. And of course those are important concepts if one is going into prayer to change God’s mind.
Things look a bit different though when you enter prayer to change YOUR MIND!
Doesn’t it make more sense that we are the problem than God and that therein maybe we should be the ones doing the CHANGING and not God? I know that it’s really hard for the ego to get that, but once it does, the GOOD VIBES really start resonating within and without. How’s the sensitivity of your tuning fork these days?
Can you feel it- Him, the Other: that IS US?
