If I polished an oyster shell, would it look like mother-of-pearl?
If I picked up a plain old oyster shell off the shoreline and polished the interior of it, would it have any of the translucent, reflective colors of the mother-of-pearl used in woodworking and jewelry? And what should I use to polish it?
Pearl Oysters ARE one of the sources where Nacre or Mother of Pearl comes from !!
As I understand it, it’s in the inner-shell… you could cut it with tile-cutting tools, and polish with acetone and a soft-clothe. Use no bleach or acid as it will dull the nacre.
