Is Hostilis root bark powder Mimosa illegal in the United States or any states?

I feel so stupid asking that. However, the husband of my sister bought online Hostilis Mimosa root bark powder for "a friend of his (or so he claims). The DEA has appeared in his house and said he was committing a crime by buying the powdered bark. He came from a foreign country, but I feel it's not serious. Of course, DMT is illegal, but I do not think that is the root bark. So here's my question ….. it seems clear from online discussions that the importation or purchase and possession mimosa hostilis root bark is not illegal. However, the powdered bark Root illegal? Does the additional step of grinding it to suddenly illegal? I can not find information on this line, so if anyone knows anything, please let me know.

Mimosa hostilis is illegal to prepare for the human consumption, so it was a decision appealed by the officer that was the reason it is powder. It fairly debatable, there are other uses for mimosa powder (IE dyeing clothes), and simply turning the powdered bark can not eat enough to get a good dose of DMT. I've never heard of an arrest made on powdered root bark, and there are many sources in the open online sale he prepared this way. If I had to guess, I would say that the DEA was just trying to get permission to enter the house because of their own suspicions.
